Thriller

A tribute to Michael Jackson

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have indulged us with their leather contest and titleholders for years (Since 2002) when Sister Erotica Psychotica took the sash. They say this is the very last of their contests and so to properly put it to rest, they have made this a Zombie themed leather contest.

I really appreciate the irony and newness of such an event and I will be there at the Eagle this weekend cheering on the contestants as they battle it out on that little stage for a wonderful title, Mr. Sister Leather 2010. RIP

Oil Can Harry's Leather

SPECIAL from backstage:
It's Sunday evening and we just finished the jock portion of the contest. Country western dancing ensues and a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence is doing her costume change. She's a little violent but I think the face paint does that to men.

All three contestants have the potential to be great titleholders. Shame that only one will be selected. All three deserve respect as men who are standing up in the community.

Leather Contests

LAST TWO contests are this weekend and next. First up is Oil Can Harry's Leather being held this Sunday. The Mr. OCH from 2007 eventually won IML2007. The OCH2008 won the prestigious American Leatherman title for 2008. And last year's Mr. OCH won LA Leather for 2009. Needless to say, a very great group of men are raised from this bar title.

Then the first weekend of March we will be having our very last Mr. Sister Leather. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in Los Angeles have had this contest for some time. Rumor has it that this will be the last and they are not going to have another.

On my radar for upcoming events: I will be contestant handling for OCH and I will be dressing up like a zombie leatherman for Mr. Sister. (What? It's going to be zombie themed, you should dress like death too.) - See you there!

Avatar Wreath Auction

@EagleLA 12/11/09 10pm

Every year many members of the Los Angeles Leather Community come together for a very unique fundraising event during the holidays; customizing wreaths with decorations and with gift packages from local and national businesses and then auctioning them off to raise money and awareness for non-profits selected by AVATAR LA.

This year's intended recipients of the proceeds were:

Roots of Equality
http://www.rootsofequality.org/

And

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention http://www.afsp.org

This year, I along with Aurelius from the Eagle LA and Mr. LA Leather, Ken Hearst combined forces to create a wreath with the theme of the Great Barrier Reef which featured an Australian, nautical, and beachcomer motif.

Last year Aurelius and I were laughing at the way "wreath" was being pronounced "reef" by a participant and came up with the idea of a "reef wreath". A way of getting people to say something silly.

So we thus presented:

The Great Barrier Wreath.
It had lots of fish, seaweed like strands of decorator stuff and silk floral 'jelkyfish'. The Stockroom gave us some silicon playtoys and a vibrating toy in a bottle as well as novelty condom tips that looked like sea anemones. Rough Trade gave us a leather shirt and Ken and I put in some other stuff like DVDs and even a wreath box!

Here's a few close up:

It was great seeing so many people out. Many had traveled to LA from across the US for Randy Carmenaty's fundraiser being held the next day at Oil Cam Harrys. I truly enjoy the reunions we get to have with our extended leather families. In attendance: Jeffrey Payne IML31, American Leather Family (Alex, Dakota, johhnyboy), Julian Marshburn, Lenny Broberg, Rick Russell and his partner Brian V, & David Stewart- Mr. Bolt Leather (Sacramento), and Brian Denheart and KC. I also saw many local friends including George Wong, Paul, Robert Green, Diego, West, Mike Gerle, Jeff Gent, Pat, Jeff Waca, Randy Carmenaty, Ross Wood, and current titleholders including LAL2009 Ken Hearst, WCR Jeffrey Moline, CSW2010 Louie Pacheco, Bears LA Leather 2009 Franco P., Mr. Sanctuary 2009 Willie Robinson.

As it was an Avatar event, many men from AvatarLA were present too.

Information about the proceed recipients:

Roots of Equality
http://www.rootsofequality.org/
From their website:
"Roots of Equality aims to organize grassroots efforts to combat discriminatory legislation, initiatives, and laws based on sexuality and protect existing rights. Our goal is to motivate like-minded individuals to join us and provide an outlet to express themselves through organized visibility and individual expression. We are based in and specialize in Downtown Los Angeles as an emerging center for GLBT activism."

And
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
http://www.afsp.org
From their website:
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy, and to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those impacted by suicide.

On Their LGBT initiative:
Funding is also being sought for a national summit on preventing LGBT suicide, to be held in late 2009. The goal of the summit is to forge a broad coalition of leading suicide prevention and LGBT organizations, government, public and private philanthropic organizations and the media to develop a national “roadmap” for preventing LGBT suicide and reducing suicide risk.

Leather Prom Night

Tonight Steve, Jake and I ventured to San Diego for the SoCal Leather Woman 2010 contest. The theme was Leather Prom Night.

The winner? Babydoll Kathleen of Los Angeles! Way to go! And kudos to Vicky for her great efforts. Duff produced a great event!

Throughout the night they gave out prizes for best ass (Ken H. MR LAL 2009) to best boots, leathers, etc. Then I won best pecs! What!? I kept looking for a bucket of pigs' blood to fall on me.

After we went to the Eagle and enjoyed the local crowd of men who were at first reserved but proved to be welcoming. We had great time but it was too short and we drove home the same night.

Leather Radar pings!

I attended the Los Angeles Leather Coalition monthly board meeting. This is a wonderfully diverse and determined group of individuals who represent some great leather/kink organizations in our city. At the end of the night we had a community forum where events and dates are shared to identify for support and help avoid scheduling conflicts.

The following is a list of leather and kink events that are pinging my leather radar:

SOCAL Leather Woman in San Diego, Oct 3, Saturday night.

Chili Cookoff, EAGLE LA, Oct 4, Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Barracks 2010 contest, Palm Springs, Oct 9-11

Bizarre Bazaar, THRESHOLD, Nov 15.
